Pro Races
ST. LOUIS TRACK CLUB MENS MILE
This race has become a regular stop for top milers since 2009 when US Olympian Leo Manzano led three men under the four-minute barrier with his 3:55.29.
Jordan McNamara (Nike Oregon Project) holds the meet record of 3:54.27 which he set in 2014. McNamara also holds the record for most wins at FOM with four!
High schoolers have also made history at Festival of Miles. Grant Fisher, a senior from Michigan, became the 7th U.S. high school athlete to break four in 2015. Reed Brown, a senior from Texas, became the 9th U.S. high school athlete to break the four-minute barrier in 2017. In 2022, for the first time in U.S. running history, two high schoolers ran sub-4 in the same race with Gary Martin, a senior from Pennsylvania who had already run sub-4, bettering his PR and Connor Burns, a junior from Missouri, running sub-4 for the first time (15th U.S. high schooler to do so). Burns is the first Missouri runner to break 4 and the first junior since Jim Ryun!
In both 2018 and 2022, fans saw 7 sub-4 miles, our record for largest number of sub-4s in one race at Festival of Miles.
All told, FOM has produced 56 sub four-minute-miles, making SLUH one of the fastest high school tracks in the country!
DRURY HOTELS WOMENS MILE
In 2021 the Festival of Miles added the Women’s Mile to replace the 800 meter race, and it has been a huge crowd favorite.
Amanda Eccleston became the first female mile champion, running a world leading time of 4:30.06.
In 2023, Abby Nichols of HOKA NAZ Elite led three women under 4:30 and secured the meet record with a time of 4:26.08.
Prior to 2021, the Women’s Field competed at 800m. The Women’s 800m was contested from 2011-2019. Team USA Minnesota teammates Gabe Grunewald (nee Gabriele Anderson) and Heather Kampf went one-two in that first edition of the event. Kampf came back and won the event for the next three years.
2015 saw a new meet record with three-time NCAA Champion LaTavia Thomas (NJNY Track Club) running 2:00.99. Local high school standout Hannah Long finished fifth in 2:04.23, the 2nd-fastest high school time of 2015.
2017 saw a high school phenom from Florida, Caitlin Collier, take the win with a personal best time of 2:03.32.
