A BIG THANK-YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT TO THE 7TH EDITION OF THE NIKE FESTIVAL OF MILES!
June 5, 2014 | Saint Louis University High School
A record crowd of more than 2,000 watched the fastest edition yet of the Nike Festival of Miles. Temperatures in the 70s with little to no wind made for perfect racing conditions at Saint Louis University High School and the athletes did not disappoint.
The night’s premier event, the Saint Louis Track Club Men’s Mile, featured Jordan McNamara (Nike OTC Elite) who addressed the crowd before the race and asked them for their help as he was going after the meet record of 3:55.29. Read the full recap by following the link below.
Congrats to our youngest participants of the night! They brought the energy and some speed. Check out the full race results from the GO! St. Louis Healthy Kids Mile and the GO! St. Louis Middle School Mile below.
This year our athlete in need is Christopher Shaw (pictured right). Christopher ran high school cross country and track at Edwardsville (IL) HS. He signed to run in college at Milligan College in TN, but shortly thereafter was diagnosed with Cancer. He is currently in the maintenance stage of treatment, but will continue chemo through March of 2015.
"My whole family loves this event. Top rate how you guys give these kids a big stage.
"Thanks for all the fun at this years festival of miles! I had a blast…definitely one of the best races of my career!
"I have taken my daughter since she was 3 and she will be 7 this year. My son will join too, now that he’s old enough to enjoy the festivities. FOM is one of our favorite Spring traditions. Its such a wonderful opportunity for the kids to see children and adults of all ages doing what they love with a great competitive vibe. All that for an excellent cause while being surrounded by like-minded people. Unbeatable.
"Thanks again for putting on such an awesome meet! Everything from the hotel, rides, and swanky pre-race lounge to the music…all of it was great.
"My children and I attended the Festival of Miles for the first time last year. I knew from their beaming faces when crossing the finish line of the kids’ mile that we would make this a tradition. And that was before they got to watch and meet the elite athletes. They still have their autographed bibs prominently displayed. It was an event they’ll never forget.
"Best sports value in St. Louis!
"Just wanted to say thank YOU for inviting me back again to your great event. I always enjoy the entire experience of coming out to St Louis, and am so thankful to your sponsors to provide help with travel, such great lodging and prize money. To race for that not only helps make the races competitive, but also is such a great source of support to continue to run at this level.
